Where Can You Engage with Fedora? | Fedora Podcast Ep. 58

If you have ever poked around Fedora and thought, this looks great, but where do I actually go to be part of it, you are not alone. Noah and I get that question all the time, and the honest answer is that there is not one door, there are several. So this episode we walked through as many of them as we could find, from real time chat to long form writing, and talked about which one fits which kind of person.

Here is the quick map we laid out:

• Matrix is where the real time conversation lives. Fedora moved its chat to Matrix, and you get there at chat.fedoraproject.org. Think of it as the hallway of the project. The Fedora Space is your jumping off point into individual team and SIG rooms, and Element is an easy client to start with, though any Matrix client works.
• Discourse is the long form home. discussion.fedoraproject.org is where the conversations that need a paper trail happen: proposals, support questions, and anything worth finding again later. If Matrix is the hallway, Discourse is the notebook.
• Fedora Magazine is the front porch. fedoramagazine.org is the public facing blog with tips, how tos, and release coverage. It is also a great first place to contribute if you like to write, and we talked about how it differs from the Community Blog.
• The Join SIG is the welcome wagon. If you are brand new and not sure where to land, the Join SIG will pair you up and point you at a team. We also touched on whatcanidoforfedora.org, which walks you through your interests and hands you the next step. Yes, you can identify as a Pixel Ninja.
• This Week in Fedora is your weekly pulse check. TWiF is a written recap of what is happening across the project, and it is a great habit if you want to keep up without joining every mailing list.

The theme underneath all of it is that these platforms complement each other rather than compete. Pick the one that matches how you like to show up, and you are in. See you in the terminal.
